Piles — Don't Suffer in Silence: Modern Laser Treatment Explained

Piles (hemorrhoids) affect nearly 1 in 3 adults at some point in their life — yet most people suffer quietly out of embarrassment. Dr. Sinha explains the condition, its symptoms, and why laser treatment is now the preferred solution.

Piles, or hemorrhoids, are swollen veins in the lower rectum and anus. They can be internal or external, and symptoms range from mild itching and discomfort to significant bleeding and pain.

Common Symptoms:

  • Bright red blood during bowel movements (on stool or tissue)

  • Itching or irritation around the anal area

  • Pain or discomfort, especially while sitting

  • Swelling around the anus

  • A lump near the anus (may be sensitive or painful)

When Should You See a Doctor? If you notice bleeding, pain, or a lump — do not ignore it. While piles are common, rectal bleeding must always be evaluated to rule out other causes.

Treatment Options: For early-stage piles, conservative management (dietary changes, increased fiber, sitz baths) is effective. For Grade 2-4 hemorrhoids, treatment options include:

  • Banding — rubber band ligation for smaller hemorrhoids

  • Laser Hemorrhoidectomy — our preferred approach; painless, bloodless, day-care

  • Stapler Hemorrhoidectomy (PPH/MIPH) — effective for large internal piles

  • Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy — for very large or complex cases

Why Laser? Laser hemorrhoidectomy at Kiran Hospital is a same-day procedure. Patients are home within hours, experience minimal pain, and are back to normal activities within 2-3 days.
